Craftsman Lt2000 Transaxle at Craftsman Riding Mower

Craftsman Lt2000 Transaxle. The mower was sitting for a couple years before i got it and was told ran fine when parked. It runs and drives in forwards and reverse but is now smoking and getting very hot from the location.
